Vance Laine

Vance came to Lincoln College – Normal in 2014 after prior experience at Columbia College – Lake County in Gurnee, IL and at Heartland Community College and Illinois State University in Normal.  He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from the University of Wisconsin – Madison and a Master’s of Arts in Higher and Adult Education from the University of Missouri.  He has been active in the Unit 5 Citizens Advisory Committee and in the local autism community.  He lives in Normal with his wife and three children.

Before joining the Lincoln College-Normal staff in 2010, Nate was a non-traditional student himself. He attended South Suburban Community College in South Holland, IL and Heartland Community College in Normal, IL before finally achieving his B.A. in History from Illinois State University in 2009. Nate’s experiences as an adult student in traditional-format programs and of working full-time while taking a full-time class load have given him a unique understanding of the challenges faced by adult students who want to further their education.


Katie Faber

Before working with the ABE Team, Katie attended Illinois Valley Community College and then transferred to Western Illinois University. While at WIU she studied Communication and received her Bachelors Degree. After school she began working with the Illinois Student assistance Commission, helping high school students and their families with financial aid. Through this job she found how she liked to help people find ways to achieve their goals. Katie is local to the Illinois Valley area, and enjoys bringing opportunity to students in her community.


Nyssa Catton

Before joining the Lincoln College-ABE staff, Nyssa attended Lincoln Land Community college where she received her associate’s in Elementary Education. She then transferred to Eastern Illinois University where she discovered her passion for Ceramics and received her Bachelor’s in 3D studio art. Nyssa went on to work as the registrar and counseling secretary at Richwoods high school, where she would maintain records, evaluate transcripts, register students, and arrange for college representatives to visit. It was then that she discovered her true calling in college admissions/academic advising and began working as an admissions counselor with our Normal Staff and very quickly became our Peoria Site Coordinator. Nyssa is very passionate about advising and uses her creativity to put a new spin on how students look at the world of education.

Kathy Marshall

Kathy earned her Bachelors of Arts in Christian Education from Lincoln Christian University in May of 1977. After working in Christian Education for several years, Kathy changed her career direction, and achieved her Cosmetology certification with the state of Illinois while working part time and raising a family with her husband, Gary. After 18 years in the salon as a successful Cosmetologist, Kathy returned to her roots of education and earned her Cosmetology instructor’s license with the state of Illinois.

As an instructor, Kathy taught cosmetology students at Midwest College of Cosmetology, a division of Lincoln College – Normal, while performing duties such as Front Desk Manager, training students to take appointments, sales, marketing, customer relations, and admissions support. In addition to instructing and assisting the Cosmetology school, Kathy is the ABE Admissions Coordinator, helping students daily with higher education goals.


Anne McDowell

Anne McDowell comes to Lincoln College – Normal from Illinois State University where she was a two-time graduate, completing her Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 1988 and most recently her Master of Science degree in College Student Personnel Administration in 2015. As an adult student herself, Anne experienced first-hand the challenges of finding and maintaining balance between working full-time and attending evening classes all while finding time to spend with family and friends. She is thrilled to be at Lincoln College-Normal serving as the ABE Admissions Counselor. It is because of her own experiences that she hopes to assist students in realizing their own educational goals. She lives in Normal with her husband and two sons.


Lange’ Payne

Lange’ Payne is a retired Air Force Master Sergeant with experience managing education and training divisions worldwide including in Japan, South Korea, Qatar, California and Missouri. He completed his Master’s Degree in Counseling Education in 2007 from Montana State University-Northern, and a Bachelors of Science in Psychology from the University of Maryland, University College in Okinawa, Japan. Lange’ Payne was awarded three Air Force Achievement Medals, the AFOTEC Tuskegee Airmen award in 2010, the Air Force Commendation Medal in 2011, and the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal in 2012. He lives in Bloomington with his wife and 2 children.


Jennifer Crane

A native Kansan, Jennifer Crane graduated from Missouri State University with a bachelor of science in marketing and advertising in 2002. After ten years in the field, she decided to take her career in a new and challenging direction by earning a master of elementary education from Rockhurst University, where she was a member of Kappa Delta Phi. Jennifer taught for five years at a Kansas City charter school before relocating to Bloomington with her husband at the end of 2014. Jennifer feels very much at home as an ABE Admissions Counselor at Lincoln College and is on a mission to help students reach their full potential in their educational endeavors.
