State Farm Companies Foundation Scholarship Application

Many non-traditional community college graduates need an incentive to continue toward earning a bachelor’s degree because they have struggled to balance work, family, and academic responsibilities just to earn the associate’s degree.  The State Farm Companies Foundation has generously provided funds for scholarships to cover full tuition less Pell Grant and MAP Grant for students with financial need who have earned at least 50 semester credit hours and are enrolled in accelerated hybrid degree programs at Lincoln College in Normal.

Students in the new eight week accelerated hybrid program will be able to earn 36 credit hours per year by attending full-time.  Students in the five week accelerated program are able to earn 27 credit hours per year by taking courses in all nine subterms.

For a student carrying a full-time load of 12 credits per semester in all three semesters (fall, spring, and summer), the total cost of tuition and academic fees in a year is estimated to be $10,8000.

12 credits / semester x 3 semesters x $300/credit hour = $10,800

If a full-time student qualifies for a full Pell grant (capped at $5920 for the 2017-2018 academic year), the maximum scholarship for that student for 36 credit hours in the year would be $4880.

Full-time tuition and academic fees $10,800
Less: Full Pell grant -$5,920
Maximum scholarship for 36 hours  $4,880

After the junior year, students will likely have only 24 credits remaining, having already earned at least 60 credit hours if an associate’s degree has been earned followed by up to 36 credit hours on scholarship in the first twelve months at Lincoln College-Normal. For the senior year, with only 24 more credits needed to reach the 120 hours for a bachelor’s degree, the cost for tuition and academic fees to the student after a full Pell grant would be only $1,280 out of pocket or by student loan. Depending on transferability of prior courses and prerequisite requirements, some students may need to earn more than 120 credit hours to meet degree requirements.  Please consult with your academic advisor.

24 credits tuition at $300 / credit hour $7,200
Less: Full Pell grant -$5,920
Remaining cost to student  $1,280

Please apply for this scholarship at least three weeks prior to the term in which you will start an accelerated hybrid program at Lincoln College in Normal.
